Are you approaching the end of your contract in the Armed Forces and don’t know what career can you choose? Here are your best bets.

Serving in the Armed Forces is a great honor. However, it’s not a career all Forces members want to take up for life. Once you feel like you’ve done your fair share to help the country, you may start looking into new, civilian careers.

That’s why the job programme is so popular among veterans. Are you approaching the end of your contract and don’t know what career can you choose? Here are your best bets.

Civilian Air Force

Any ex-Forces member who had a job in the Royal Air Force will have no problems getting a job in the Civilian Air Force of any country. If you’ve been anywhere near a machine like P-8A Poseidon, you will handle any civilian aircraft with no problems.

Changing from a military pilot to flying passenger airplanes will require additional training, but the pay is worth it.

Cybersecurity Specialist

Next up on the list of high-paying jobs is cybersecurity. Depending on your specialization, you can be getting anywhere from £95,000 to £150,000 a year.

Cybersecurity is now one of the primary concerns for the big corporations. Someone who has been doing this for the Armed Forces or the Royal Navy will be choosing from a lengthy list of offers once they get their resume out.

Logistics Analyst

For every combat veteran, there is plenty of support personnel. The people who make sure everyone in the Forces is fed, clothed, supplied with ammo, and entertained. If you’re one of these numerous officers, you may find supervising logistics for a civilian company a piece of cake.

Paramedic

If you’re trained in battlefield medicine and want to continue serving Britain in another capacity, consider joining the paramedics. You may need to get some additional training to qualify, but most places that are hiring will be more than happy to take a veteran to their ranks.

It’s a rewarding job, both emotionally and financially. You’ll be saving people’s lives every day and earning up to £45,000 a year.

Law Enforcement

Do you feel like your days in the Forces are over, but you still want to protect the citizens? Joining law enforcement may be the best thing you can do. Police will never pass on an ex-Forces member, and you’ll get a stable income and a decent pension when you retire.

Security Officer

Are you keen on tactics and security? Do you know all ins and outs of storming a building or ensuring the safety of an important person? You may find yourself in a perfect position to become a security officer for a private company in the UK or in any other part of the world.

Fitness Instructor

You’ll have a hard time finding a fitness programme more challenging than the one Armed Forces recruits have to go through. If you’ve had a job as an instructor in the Forces, you will have no problems finding a similar job in your civilian life. You can either join a company as an employee or become an entrepreneur and work with private clients.

Entrepreneur

If you have savings from your years in the Armed Forces, you may want to consider starting a small business. You can learn all there is to know about doing business. There’s just one thing you can’t learn in an MBA course.

You can’t learn to work under stress, solve tough problems, and build bonds that last for life. It’s something only the Armed Forces can teach you. As an ex-member, you already have an edge over the competition.

Writer

Did you experience something extraordinary in the Forces that you can’t but share with the world? Write a book about it, and maybe it will become the next Hollywood blockbuster.

Noah Baker from resume writing service shares his opinion on what you need to make your writing succeed: “Apart from a good storyline and decent style, you need one main thing to sell any piece of writing to a big audience, a gimmick that makes you instantly recognizable.”

Journalist

Social media lack professionals with a military background. Only 2% of media workers are military veterans according to the U.S. Census reports. And the Armed Forces veterans contribute nuanced understanding and on-the-ground experience to the newsrooms. You will find a lot of similar things between journalism and the military, you will be just serving a different audience.

Build on a solid foundation

Whatever civil career you choose, you will have the skills and perseverance you need to climb the corporate ladder or become a successful entrepreneur. The Armed Forces give you the best foundation for any civilian job.
